Canada on the way to legalizing marijuana

Canada has had semi-loose laws regarding marijuana for some time now. Medicinal dispensaries have operated openly for years with little issue, as they exist in somewhat of a gray area. This may change soon as Canada just started the process to legalize marijuana entirely. This morning, Canada announced that they created a task force to build the framework for completely legalizing the possession and usage of the plant. This task force is planning to release a final report to the public sometime in November, where we will be able to see their findings on the matter.

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, told parliament in the beginning of 2016 that “in [He believes in the] legalization and regulation of marijuana because it protects our kids and keeps money out of the pockets of criminal organizations and street gangs…” Health Minister of the U.N., Jane Philpott, said the legalization could take place as early as 2017.

With the U.S. changing drug laws surrounding marijuana and a much larger shift expected to be coming soon, it’s not surprising that Canada has decided that it would be time to join in and keep pace with much of the modern world. This potential legalization in Canada is likely to cause some more shuffling in the states in the U.S. that border Canada and a reporter at Vox suggests that it may encourage a more rapid restructuring of the U.S. laws regarding weed. We are not clear whether U.S. President, Barack Obama, was aware of this move in Canada, and if he has any comments on the matter.

If legalization does come to Canada, it will be a an important milestone in changing the war on drugs, as Canada will be the first of the wealthy nations to move towards complete legalization. The U.S. and Mexico will be some of the first two countries to see some of the immediate changes, simply because of their proximity to Canada.

Hopefully we won’t have to wait until November to get some updates on how the process is going, but even if we do – it will be worth the wait.

To top off the assault on the farmers, now they’ve allowed ’em big box factory grows to make extracts & everything under the sun that we’ve been making :::(
Farmers will keep committing suicide & vanishing while it’s crony business as usual for share holders :::(
    just gross…
I’ve been hoping for legalization all my life, now I just feel like curling into a ball… shut the lights off, life is over.
Thank heavens for the deepweb, still gonna have to lower my prices though, it’s been slow lately…

  2. Outraged In Newcastle

Since Elbowgate confidence in Trudeau is at an all time international low. The recently pointless, costly, ridiculous raids on several cannabis dispensaries in Toronto indicate that this man’s intentions toward cannabis are not all that he has claimed. Why isn’t cannabis legal in Canada right now??

  3. Pretty stupid comments guys. First of all our government has to go through a legal process for all criminal activity or laws like marijuana being legal. Second of all our marijuana for medical purposes goes through grow cycle with proper curing like every plant does. I am smoking white widow for seizures and I can tell you one thing, it is a lot better than street weed. The best I’ve ever smoked in my life

  4. As for the completely idiotic 9000 dollars a pound, Congrats man you officially have the iq of 0. I pay 5 dollars a gram for medical grade marijuana

  5. 454 grams in a pound I pay 5 dollars a gram. I pay about 2000 a pound with even cheaper bulk discounts. Than there’s insurance that actually cover it..not all of em do. So technically we get free weed. Make sure your negative iq levels does some research before you coming running your mouth at the Canadian government.

Next those choices to execute the warrants for the medical marijuana dispenseries were related to then serving of marijuana which is still illegal here to none medical marijuana patients. They were also growing marijuana illegally and mold was found in it.

Third the dispensaries were also taking down because they can’t control and keep track of those of us that have a medical licence and can only get a certain amount per mon the. At usually 3g is the highest a day. This is to prevent us from selling it.

    • U.S. Vice President Joe Biden

Congrats, Moo4u, you get the Stockholm Syndrome Award for most craven victim of cannabis prohibition.
“Third the dispensaries were also taking down because they can’t control and keep track of those of us that have a medical licence and can only get a certain amount per mon the. At usually 3g is the highest a day. This is to prevent us from selling it.”

Sad that you lack the vision of the individual’s right to medicate however they want with a harmless plant. I guess your boss and your mother-in-law must think the world of you.

  6. U.S. Vice President Joe Biden

After all, cannabis is dangerous, we can’t let anyone use it anytime they want. You’ve got the right idea Moo4u, we’ve simply got to get the police in on this and keep them in on it. We can’t imagine any other way. O.K, you’ve got to punch-in, I won’t take any more of your time.

  7. Nathan Melancon

I don’t see why yall get so upset over this…. why does it really matter whether its legal or not??? we are gonna smoke any way am I right or am I right?
